Route: Innsbruck – Birkkarspitze – Fleischbank – Buchstein – Schloss Ringberg (Tegernsee), ~100 km
Destination point – Ringberg castle, a pseudo-gothic structure resembling a smaller version of Neuschwanstein (and having a somewhat similar history behind its construction); now it belongs to the Max Planck society, and hosts numerous scientific meetings throughout the year. So I arrived to my workshop on foot across Bavarian Alps, and even added last touches to my talk on the way.
Walked across some snow fields on approach to Birkkarspitze (the highest summit of this region).
Forded a mountain stream (to avoid a 1km detour across a bridge), was easier than it appeared.
Numerous waterfalls on descent from Schafreuter in misty weather.
The ascent trail to Buchstein was a bit crowded, but rewarded by a glass of buttermilk straight from the farm on the plateau.
Anti-highlight – bumpy cow-trails (Kühebahn!)
Too much walking on roads towards the end ⟹ blisters for the first time in my hikes! had to walk barefooted at the workshop:)
